The Miami Dolphins completely hit the reset button in the offseason. The team moved on from their franchise quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa. Furthermore, they scraped the roster down to the bones by getting rid of Jaylen Waddle, Bradley Chubb, Tyreek Hill, and Minkah Fitzpatrick.

The team did bring in one big-name free agent, though, that being Malik Willis, a quarterback who was signed to a three-year deal. Willis started his career as a raw prospect, and it took a few years for him to prove he can start in this league. The Dolphins signed gunslinging speedster, hoping he could prove himself as the franchise player.

With so little talent around him, though, Willis has struggled. The Dolphins are one of three teams without a win, and Willis ranks just 25th with 849 passing yards. The Liberty product has just two passing touchdowns, too. The 0-5 Dolphins are headed into their bye week, so if there were a time to bench Willis, it would be now.

However, according to Davis Furones, head coach Jeff Hafley confirmed the team has no intention on demoting Willis. “We've played five games, and Malik is our quarterback,” Hafley said.

While the Dolphins would love for Willis to play better, the team is clearly in the midst of a rebuild, and winning likely isn't as big a priority for the team as it is for others. Plus, it isn't like the team has a young quarterback waiting for his chance to prove himself that the team is excited about, nor a veteran that could deliver more victories right away. Former sixth-rounder Kyle McCord is Willis' backup. Riding out the season with Willis makes sense, and the Dolphins can decide at season's end if they view him as the long-term starter or if they want to find a replacement in the draft.
