Former NFL quarterback and UCLA Bruins special advisor Derek Carr spoke highly of UCLA quarterback Nico Iamaleava. In a segment of his podcast Home Grown in August, Carr spoke glowingly about the 6'5″ QB, now in his second season with UCLA after two years at Tennessee.

“But Nico, man, this guy. Yes. Whoever gets their hands on him at the next level…ooooh,” Carr said.

He then goes into why he believes that Imaleava will be a solid NFL prospect.

“Let me tell you something about this quarterback. He walks in the room 6'6″, 230 pounds. He walks in, I was like, ‘Who, who is this guy?' He's like, ‘That's our quarterback.' I said, ‘Hey, what's up, Nico?' He's like, ‘What's up, man?' I got these videos of him playing volleyball with a 40 plus inch vert, looking down at people, spiking the ball. I go out to practice, we're on the right hash, he throws a cover zero deep out to the field. The ball doesn't leave eye height. Zink.”

Carr also said that Iamaleava is coachable and spoke highly of his family.

“He is 100% coachable…He is the greatest kid. Fam, met his dad, uncle. Love it. Brother is on the team there, who's also another baller. Yep, that's right. Like, they are great people. Open to learning, open to… He'll text me questions. He'll text me, and I'm, and I told him, I was like, ‘Look, man, I'm here just as a resource to help. I'm not here to overstep a coach. I'm not over here to overstep your quarterback coach, offensive coordinator. You know that.' And they, and they know that.”

Thus far in his second season with the Bruins, Iamaleava has thrown for 335 yards and no touchdowns, with two interceptions, and has a 63% completion percentage. He has one rushing touchdown and has rushed for 86 yards on 22 carries.
