The Miami Dolphins lost running back De’Von Achane to a knee injury and it sounds like he could miss some significant time. He’s undergoing some additional testing, but head coach Jeff Hafley said it did not sound optimistic.

He entered the season as a starter for most fantasy football leagues, so this injury is a tough one. He hadn’t put up huge numbers into Week 3, but he’s still someone you’re going to need to replace this week. The running back position has been pretty light of late. There were not many big breakout options in Week 3, and so beyond a couple obvious options, you might need to dig a little deeper for Week 4.

Fantasy waiver wire options

Ollie Gordon II vs. Jaylen Wright, Dolphins

Wright has been the backup on the Dolphins depth chart, but he was inactive in Week 3 due to a foot injury. He missed practice time this week and was doubtful heading into the weekend. Gordon got the backup role in his place and took over the starting position when Achane went down with his injury. Gordon finished Sunday’s game against the Chiefs with 17 carries for 41 yards and a touchdown, to go along with three catches for 14 yards.

This is likely to turn into a committee situation unless either of Gordon or Wright can break out. Gordon wasn’t overly impressive, so it’s hard to see him being the clear front-runner heading into the waiver wire this week. I would probably lean Gordon since he is healthy, but it’s a toss-up between the two for the rest of Achane’s absence.

Braelon Allen, Jets

Breece Hall suffered a thigh injury in the fourth quarter on Sunday and did not return to the game. If he misses any time, Allen will get the starting nod over Isaiah Davis. Keep an eye out for a Hall injury update on Monday because if he misses Week 4, Allen will be the most popular waiver wire add this week.

Keaton Mitchell, Chargers

Omarion Hampton is the starter in LA, but Mitchell outperformed him. Hampton had 56 rushing yards on 15 carries and one target but no receptions in the passing game. Mitchell had 52 rushing yards on eight carries and also three receptions with a touchdown. He lost five yards on his pass catches, but regardless, he more than doubled up Hampton. He’s an intriguing option coming out of a solid Week 3.

Justice Hill, Ravens

We’re officially digging deep at this point. Hill won’t be supplanting Derrick Henry in the starting lineup, but the Ravens are double digit favorites against the Titans in Week 4. There’s a decent chance of some garbage time for Hill, so if you’re really hard up for a running back, Hill offers some upside.

DeeJay Dallas, Vikings

Similar to Hill, you’re betting on garbage time. The Vikings host the Dolphins in Week 4 and are a 9.5-point favorite. Aaron Jones will get plenty of work, but Dallas could be a lottery ticket in deeper leagues.
