The Chicago Cubs' playoff run came and went after falling 2-0 in the Wild Card series against the San Diego Padres. With the team out of the postseason, President of Baseball Operations Jed Hoyer revealed where he failed the roster this season.

During his end-of-year press conference, Hoyer admitted his moves to improve the bullpen simply did not work, according to Jesse Rogers of ESPN. He appears to be taking full accountability for the lack of firepower behind the starting rotation.

“I did a poor job on the bullpen this year,” Hoyer said. “Full stop. The guys we acquired this winter didn't produce nearly as well as a year ago.”

Game 1 against the Padres turned out to be a blowout loss for the Cubs, as the team suffered an 8-0 defeat in that one. The offense couldn't get going whatsoever, and the pitching didn't help either. Game 2 wasn't nearly as bad, but it still resulted in a 4-1 loss. In total, Chicago gave up 12 earned runs while generating just 13 strikeouts between the two contests.
