Javonte Williams gave the Dallas Cowboys’ ground game a long-awaited breakthrough on Monday night. He delivered a performance that evoked memories of Ezekiel Elliott’s best days in Big D. Williams rushed for 155 yards and a touchdown in Dallas’ commanding 38-21 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. He became the first Cowboys running back to eclipse 150 rushing yards in a game since Elliott accomplished the feat in 2018.

Williams needed 25 carries to reach his career-high total. He repeatedly powered through Philadelphia’s defense and helping Dallas control the tempo. His physical running complemented Dak Prescott’s passing attack. CeeDee Lamb also added two touchdown receptions as the Cowboys pulled away with 18 unanswered second-half points.

Williams’ 2026 campaign has developed into a compelling resurgence. Through seven weeks, he has recorded 472 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns. He has established himself as a central piece of Brian Schottenheimer’s offense. He also entered Monday’s game with eight total touchdowns through six contests. That includes a receiving score, after emerging as a dependable red-zone threat despite stretches of inconsistent rushing production.

The performance against Philadelphia marked a new high point. Dallas needed a physical ground presence to complement Prescott and keep opposing defenses from focusing exclusively on the passing game. Williams delivered exactly that. He punished the Eagles between the tackles and sustained drives when the Cowboys needed to seize control.

His milestone also offers a reminder of the kind of rushing production Dallas has lacked since Elliott’s peak years. One dominant performance will not solve every offensive concern. However, Williams has given the Cowboys another reason to believe their attack can be more balanced. If he maintains this level, Dallas could become a much tougher opponent down the stretch.
