Concern continues to grow for Golden State Warriors center Kristaps Porzingis has his his time away from the deal extends he deals with an undisclosed illness. Porzingis was not present during the team's Media Day last Monday and has been away from the team while they were in Hawaii for training camp.

The updates from the Warriors have been particularly slim, as everyone tries to respect Porzingis' privacy in what appears to be a serious health matter.

On Thursday, Steve Kerr spoke with members of the media, where he says he had not spoken with Porzingis to date.

“He's not here today,” Kerr said, per Luca Evans of the San Francisco Chronicle. “I have not, you know, we've obviously been busy in Hawaii and Portland. So we just came in and we worked out the vets had a really good practice and yeah so I'll reach out to to KP today and check in with them, but nothing new.

“We texted. Seems to be doing okay, but we haven't gotten into depth.”

The Warriors were hoping to start Porzingis at their center spot, but that role now belongs to Al Horford for the foreseeable future as one of the few healthy big men on this roster. And there isn't much time to wait for Porzingis either. Kerr's team needs to continue building what they currently have with the regular season opener fast approaching.

“Circumstances change every year,” Kerr added. “You get thrown a lot of curveballs in this business and it's always the same mentality. It's next man up and prepare for what's in front of you and support everybody who is not here, whether it's Jimmy or KP or Moses. I mean we're always going to give our players every bit of support and help them be the best versions of themselves and acknowledge that the train doesn't stop moving. You got to keep going and we're having a great camp. I'm really pleased with the progress we're making. Obviously, we'd rather have KP here and a part of it, but you know he's got to take care of his health and again we'll support that and keep moving forward with the team.”

Steve Kerr said he’s texted with Kristaps Porzingis. Porzingis wasn’t at practice today/Kerr hasn’t seen him, Kerr said he’ll check in with Porzingis today.

When asked if the team has a sense behind-the-scenes of what Porzingis is dealing with, Kerr said no.

Horford played multiple years with Porzingis as members of the Boston Celtics before that franchise had to make moves with the second apron in mind. The two re-united last year when Kristaps Porzingis was traded from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Jonathan Kuminga.

The 40-year old center now steps into a starting role, but says nothing schematically changes for the Warriors.

“As far as I know, the plan is as it's been going into the regular season,” Horford said at practice Thursday. “I haven't had any conversations with coach or anyone. So I'm just continuing to prepare myself and be ready to help in whichever way I can.”

Al Horford said he also hasn't been able to speak to Kristaps Porzingis and adds that he hasn't seen him around the practice facility in recent days.

“Yeah, I mean, we just don't have much information. So I think for us, it's just hoping that he gets right, gets better. And for us, it's just continuing to move forward. The preseason's here, the games are coming and the challenges are in front of us. And with our sport, as with any sport, the next guy has to step up and we'll have to do a little more and that's kind of where we're at.”

At this point, it's completely up in the air as to when Kristaps Porzingis returns to the Warriors lineup. The most important thing, frankly, is his health and making sure that he's okay on a personal level.
