The Washington Commanders will be facing the Indianapolis Colts, and all eyes have been on the status of Jayden Daniels as he tries to come back from his elbow injury. Though he did some stuff with the team at practice this week, it doesn't look like he's quite there yet, and head coach Dan Quinn has ruled him out for the game, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

“Commanders coach Dan Quinn made it official, as Marcus Mariota will start once again. He’ll face the Colts, with Jayden Daniels not quite ready,” Rapoport wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

That's not the worst news for the Commanders, as Daniels gets another week to recover and possibly could be ready to play soon. With how Mariota performed last week against the Seattle Seahawks, the team could afford to give Daniels some more time to rest.

The Commanders definitely want to be cautious, especially with Daniels dealing with this injury from last season. It's also still very early in the season, and since they know they'll be getting him back at some point, it's best to make sure he's 100%. This goes beyond this season and is for the future of their star player.

Mariota spoke about the possibility of Daniels playing this week, and he understands the assignment if he does or if he doesn't.

“At the end of the day, I think if he’s healthy and he can play, he should play. This is his team. And the more that we can help support that and give him all the tools that he needs to be successful, that’s what our roles are,” Mariota said via Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic on X.

It looks like Mariota will have the chance to lead the team to another win this week.
