The Washington Commanders have to feel terrible about getting a tie in Week 5. Washington completely botched the end of the game, eliminating their chance to kick a potential game-winning field goal against New York. Instead, Jayden Daniels ran out the clock to secure a 27-27 tie with the Giants. Now the speculation about Dan Quinn's future in Washington is beginning to heat up after such a head-scratching sequence of events.
Quinn sidestepped a question about his job security after Sunday's dreadful loss. He gave a cryptic response when asked if he's had a conversation with ownership since Sunday night.
“Josh (Harris) and I talk regularly before games, after games, after good games, after tough games. That's a normal process for us,” Quinn said on Monday, per The Athletic's Nicki Jhabvala. “And trust me, no one is pleased with this outcome and where we're at. But the part that we do have, those hard conversations, were asked about where we're at and what we need to fix and what we need to work on. I like having that communication with him.”
Technically Quinn did answer the question, but he clearly covered up the exact substance of his last conversation with ownership.
Quinn has been under the microscope in Washington for quite some time. But Sunday's awful overtime performance has fans calling for him to be fired right away.
The Commanders shocked the NFL by making the NFC Championship back in 2024. However, since then they've gone 5-12 in 2025 and started 1-3-1 this season. Washington just hasn't been able to sustain any success from one year to another under Quinn's leadership.
Article Continues BelowIt is safe to say that Quinn's future with the Commanders is more vulnerable now than ever before. If the Commanders put up another stinker, ownership could finally decide to end his tenure. Unfortunately, Washington will face an undefeated team in their next game.
Next up for the Commanders is a Week 6 matchup against the 49ers on Monday Night Football.
