On Saturday, the Oregon football program suffered one of its worst losses in recent program history with a road defeat at the hands of the Oklahoma State Cowboys by a score of 39-31. The Ducks entered this game as bigger than 24-point favorites, but found themselves playing from behind throughout most of the afternoon, with the team unable to get enough stops on defense en route to the embarrassing loss.

After the game, sports media personality Colin Cowherd had some harsh words for Oregon head coach Dan Lanning.

“Lincoln Riley would have won that game,” opined Cowherd on X, formerly Twitter.

Riley and Lanning have long been compared to one another as rival coaches in the Big 10, although some fans in the comment section didn't agree with Cowherd's assessment.

“Lincoln Riley would have removed Michigan from the schedule and added Southwest Salami State,” joked one fan.

“Lincoln Riley has no defense. Michigan would have won by 30,” added another.

Still, that moral support is unlikely to make Lanning feel much better in the aftermath of Saturday's ugly loss, which could threaten to take the Ducks out of the top-25 rankings altogether after stumbling out of the gate to open up this season.

Last week, Oregon had to struggle much harder than they were expected to in order to knock off Boise State, and the schedule is only going to get tougher from here, including a game against Riley and the USC Trojans coming up in a couple of weeks.

Before that, the Ducks will look to get back on track on Saturday with a home tilt against Portland State at 10:30 pm ET.
