Clemson will be without another dynamic offensive weapon when the Tigers face Syracuse on Saturday, as wide receiver Tyler Brown has officially been ruled out of the contest. The senior had been listed as questionable on Wednesday and Thursday before his status was confirmed on Friday's ACC availability report. The specific injury was not disclosed.
Brown's absence adds to Clemson's growing list of offensive injuries. He joins starting center Harris Sewell, running back Gideon Davidson and left guard Elyjah Thurmon on the unavailable list. Reserve wide receiver Gordon Sellars III has also been ruled out.
The 21-year-old has been one of the Tigers' leading offensive contributors this season, ranking second on the team with 36 receptions for 332 yards. He has also recorded five rushing attempts for 83 yards and a touchdown.
Brown continues to flourish in Clemson's recent games. He finished with five catches for 74 yards in last week's 36-24 win over Florida State. He also complied eight receptions for 62 yards against Virginia Tech and hauled in 10 passes for 76 yards versus then-No. 4 Miami on October 3.
His absence creates another challenge for freshman quarterback Tait Reynolds, who has relied on Brown as a dependable receiving option in recent weeks.
The Tigers could turn to backup slot receiver Juju Preston, who has seven receptions for 49 yards this season. Freshman Naeem Burroughs is another possibility after logging two catches for 19 yards. Burroughs played just one snap against the Seminoles, while Preston did not appear in that game.
Article Continues BelowThe ramifications of Brown's absence are amplified by the sustained excellence he has demonstrated throughout his Clemson career. After garnering 52 catches for 531 yards and four touchdowns as a freshman in 2023, injuries restricted him to six games and five receptions for 30 yards in 2024. He returned last season and amassed 22 catches for 191 yards.
The Tigers enter Saturday's encounter versus the Orange as a 2.5-point favorite. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET, with ESPN2 broadcasting the game.
