The Michigan Wolverines received a major boost on Wednesday with the commitment of Lucai Anderson, giving new head coach Mike Boynton his first high school recruit since taking over the job, as per Jeff Borzello of ESPN. Anderson is considered a top-75 recruit in the country, and he is the younger brother of Charlotte Hornets rookie guard Christian Anderson who was taken with the No. 18 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.
Lucai Anderson’s commitment to Michigan comes following a strong showing for the U18 German national team this past summer during FIBA EuroBasket. He will be finishing up his senior year of high school this upcoming season at IMG Academy.
While the Wolverines will have to wait a year to see Anderson on the court, his commitment comes on the heels of a very strong group of recruits set to take the floor this year as freshmen. Michigan was dealt a major blow earlier in the offseason when it was revealed that Brandon McCoy, part of that heralded recruiting class, would miss the entirety of the 2026-27 season due to an ACL injury.

This will be Boyton’s first year at the helm after taking over the program following Dusty May’s departure to the Dallas Mavericks. Boynton had been on staff since 2024, and was a part of the Wolverines’ national championship run last season. Michigan is expected to be one of the better teams in the Big Ten once again.
