On Sunday afternoon, the Kansas City Chiefs hit the field for a home game against the lowly New York Jets. The Chiefs suffered a huge injury scare when quarterback Patrick Mahomes went down with an apparent arm injury.

The play occurred after Mahomes took a big hit from Jets pass rusher David Bailey.

The play caused a fumble, which the Jets were able to recover.

However, the bigger concern was for Mahomes, who exited the game following the turnover.

Minutes later, Nate Taylor of ESPN reported on X, formerly Twitter, that “After taking a strip sack on his throwing arm, Patrick Mahomes attempted several throws on the Chiefs' sideline. He's appeared to have discomfort after his follow through. He still has his helmet while talking to trainers.”

However, evidently, the discomfort wasn't terrible, as Mahomes was back out on the field for the next Chiefs' offensive drive, somehow avoiding a serious injury despite the severity of the hit.

The last thing the Chiefs can afford at this point is an injury to Mahomes, as the superstar just came back this season from a torn ACL he suffered toward the end of last year. Kansas City has already been hit with the injury bug in other areas of the roster, and one could feel the collective sigh of relief in Arrowhead Stadium when he trotted back out onto the field on Sunday.

In any case, following the Jets game, the Chiefs will next hit the field next Sunday for a road game against the Atlanta Falcons.
