The Kansas City Chiefs lost their undefeated record in dispiriting fashion as they were dominated 20-3 by the Seattle Seahawks. In his much-anticipated matchup against his old team, top rusher Kenneth Walker III was completely shut down by the Seahawks run defense, which limited him to just 36 yards.

But Patrick Mahomes wants it known that it wasn't all Walker's fault. The Chiefs quarterback has taken the blame for failing to take advantage of the Seahawks selling out to stop the run.

“We have to help him. I think that’s the biggest thing,” Mahomes said per Jesse Newell of The Athletic. “When they put so many eggs in that basket of stopping the run game, we have to have the play-action game and the movement game to be able to throw the ball.”

Mahomes had just as bad a game as Walker III as he completed just 19 of 33 passes for 165 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. It was his least effective game of the season thus far.

With top receivers Rashee Rice and Tyquan Thornton still out, they were missing a big-play threat to break open the Seahawks defense. As a result, Seattle was able to completely take Walker out of the game.

Given how effective Walker has been for the Chiefs, it won't be a surprise to see other teams focus on stopping him moving forward. The challenge now for Mahomes and the Chiefs is to learn some lessons from the Seahawks loss and find some counters to that in order to prevent the offense from completely stalling out again.
