The Los Angeles Chargers are set to kick off their 2026 NFL season on Sunday at home against the Arizona Cardinals. The game will mark the debut of offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel, who was hired by Los Angeles this offseason after he parted ways with the Miami Dolphins following his tenure as their head coach.

Recently, NFL insider Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network broke down the big things that McDaniel has in store for his partnership with quarterback Justin Herbert.

“We are going to see things that we have never seen in a Mike McDaniel offense… We've seen what Tua Tagovailoa can do with the Miami Dolphins. McDaniel has gotten a lot of respect around the league for being an offensive innovator. My understanding is that there are a lot of plays he has never been able to call that we are going to see this year because he has Justin Herbert with the arm to do it,” said Rapoport, per a video posted to his account on X, formerly Twitter.

Indeed, McDaniels' playbook was somewhat limited with Tagovailoa's physical limitations during his time with the Dolphins, although that didn't stop Miami from racing off to one of the best offensive starts in NFL history at the beginning of the 2023 season before tapering off down the stretch.

Although there are still plenty of questions about Herbert, particularly regarding his ability to perform in the playoffs, there's no doubt about his arm talent, a trait that McDaniel will look to take full advantage of right off the bat against the Cardinals.

Los Angeles and Arizona are set to kick off on Sunday shortly after 4:00 pm ET.
