The NBA is officially back in action and the opening night has multiple blockbuster fixtures that fans will be excited about. Among them is the Boston Celtics’ visit to Little Caesars Arena to take on the Detroit Pistons, and both teams enter the matchup with multiple names on the official injury report.
First off, we have the Celtics’ backup guard Devin Carter, who is currently out due to an illness. That rounds off the players Boston will be missing for their first matchup of the season, which means they are likely to start all of their projected starters for this game. The Pistons, however, are not as blessed.
Taurean Prince joins Elijah Harkless on the questionable list. The former is doubtful due to personal reasons, while the latter is on a two-way G League contract. However, his fellow G League stars in the form of Isaac Jones and Ugonna Onyenso are both confirmed to be out for this game.
The Celtics are likely to start Derrick White alongside new signing Paul George as their guards, with Jayson Tatum and Jordan Walsh expected to start as the forwards. Finally, Mitchell Robinson is expected to start at Center.
Detroit, meanwhile, finished as the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference last season and are likely to field Cade Cunningham and Duncan Robinson as the starting guards. John Collins and Ausar Thompson can be expected to start as the forwards, with Jalen Duren as the Center.
Both teams will be looking to start off the season on a strong note, although plenty of starters can be expected to receive limited minutes considering it is the first game of the season. All eyes will be on PG13, who will play his first official game for the Celtics after the blockbuster trade that saw him move from the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange of draft capital and 2024 Finals MVP, Jaylen Brown.
