The Boston Celtics and guard Payton Pritchard have agreed to a two-year, $44.2 million contract extension before the start of the 2026-27 NBA season, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.

Pritchard is now under contract through the 2029-30 season, a year in which he will own a mutual option. This new extension will not kick in until the 2028-29 season, as Pritchard is still under contract with the Celtics.

The 28-year-old guard signed a four-year, $30 million rookie contract extension with the Celtics in 2023, a deal that blossomed into one of the best in the NBA.

After playing a key role off the bench during the Celtics' championship run in 2024, Pritchard became the best bench player in the league during the 2024-25 season, resulting in him winning the Sixth Man of the Year award.

This past year, Pritchard stepped into a starting role for the Celtics, playing 50 of his 79 games in Joe Mazzulla's starting lineup. He averaged 17.0 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game while shooting 46.4 percent from the floor and 37.7 percent from 3-point range, helping the Celtics win 56 games and claim the 2-seed in the Eastern Conference.
