The Arizona Cardinals tied up the Dallas Cowboys at 3-5 on the season with a 33-30 overtime win engineered by Gardner Minshew, the fan favorite QB who was overcome with emotion afterward. The game was a trash talk-filled one as Trey McBride got into it with Caleb Downs of the Cowboys on a winning day for Minshew's team.

Theo Mackie of AZ Central heard from Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur after the game, who made a statement about whether Minshew will start in Week 9.

“LaFleur was asked whether Minshew will start next week and declined to answer the question. He didn't explicitly say that they haven't made a decision, though that was of course the implication.”

The Cardinals' Minshew took over for Jacoby Brissett and put his mark on the season with a big performance. He led the Cardinals back from down 30-24, tying the game on a 13-yard touchdown pass to Michael Wilson, who signed a contract extension with LaFleur's team earlier this year.

In overtime, Minshew's cool, steady hand was on display again as he led his team to a game-winning field goal from Chad Ryland. Minshew had a 188 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Cardinals, injecting some much-needed juice on a day when rookie running back Jeremiyah Love suffered an ankle injury.

The offense looked good with Minshew playing in place of Brissett, which appears to give him the inside track to starting in Week 9 in Seattle against the Seahawks. Minshew has the improvisation skills to breathe life into a team in desperate need of it, with the playoffs still a possibility despite their losing record.
