The Washington Capitals have made some key additions to their roster ahead of the 2026-27 NHL season — but they locked up a critical homegrown piece of the roster on Tuesday morning.

The Caps re-signed forward Ryan Leonard to an eight-year extension with a $10.5 million average annual value, the team announced.

The 21-year-old, who was selected No. 8 overall in the 2023 NHL Draft, recorded 20 goals and 45 points in 75 games as a rookie in 2025-26.
