The Montreal Canadiens will be playing in their home opener against the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night. The Canadiens had high expectations coming into the season, and those expectations included another great season from Ivan Demidov. Head coach Martin St. Louis has raved about Demidov's play and growth in the preseason.

Demidov was off to a strong start in his second full campaign, scoring a goal and adding an assist in his first two games. Now, the young forward is dealing with an injury, according to a post from the team.

“Forward Ivan Demidov (lower body) will be out for two to four weeks,” the post on X, formerly Twitter, read.

Demidov played the entire game on Saturday against the Pittsburgh Penguins, scoring the game-tying goal before the Penguins won in overtime.

It will be the first time in his NHL career that he has missed a game. He played in all 82 games last year, lighting the lamp 19 times and adding 43 helpers.

With Demidov out of the lineup, Florian Xhekaj will be in the line up, and currently is slotted on the third line. He played in just five games last year, in his first NHL experience. He is the younger brother of Canadiens defender Arber Xhekaj. Florian Xhekaj had one assist in his five games.

Meanwhile, Oliver Kapanen is expected to return to the lineup soon. He played in all 82 games last year, scoring 22 goals and adding 15 assists. His return to the lineup would be a massive boost.

The Canadiens are 1-0-1 on the year. Puck drop against the 1-1-1 Hurricanes is at 7 pm ET on Tuesday.
