Florida State failed to save face against Louisville on Friday, suffering a 44-20 loss. The loss has intensified questions surrounding head coach Mike Norvell’s future as the program continues to struggle with consistency.

Florida State has not secured a road victory since November 2023. Pete Nakos of On3 reported that the Seminoles’ upcoming road matchup against Miami could bring even more scrutiny to Norvell.

“Florida State at Miami next week. Noise is only going to get louder around Mike Norvell. Seminoles' last road win was on Nov. 25, 2023,” Nakos wrote.

Florida State initially appeared to have control of the Louisville matchup, jumping out to a 14-0 lead. However, the Seminoles followed that promising start with a disastrous second quarter, allowing Louisville to ultimately hand them another frustrating loss.

The past couple of seasons have been challenging for the Seminoles, who have struggled to maintain the success they enjoyed during their 13-1 season in 2023. As a result, Norvell entered this season already facing significant pressure to get the program back on track.

The latest loss marked Florida State’s 11th consecutive road loss. With the Seminoles now sitting at 3-3 overall and 1-2 in ACC play, questions continue to mount over whether Norvell can turn things around before the season slips further away.

However, Friday’s loss does not necessarily mean Florida State will immediately move on from its head coach. The university must also weigh the financial implications of dismissing Norvell.

Despite the disappointing result against Louisville, Norvell still has an opportunity to improve his standing during the remainder of the season. A strong finish could help ease some of the pressure surrounding Norvell by showing that the Seminoles can recover from their recent struggles and compete more consistently.

However, another disappointing stretch could make it increasingly difficult for the head coach of Floroda State to quiet his critics.
