The 2026 NFL trade deadline is not until November 10th this year. But that hasn't stopped teams from wheeling and dealing more than a month before the deadline. The Joey Porter Jr. trade between the Cowboys and Steelers was the first big domino to fall. Now the Eagles and Ravens have joined the party with a shocking trade ahead of Week 5.
Philadelphia has traded center Cam Jurgens to Baltimore in exchange for multiple draft picks. This trade comes just one day after Lane Johnson's surprising retirement announcement. Now the Eagles' offensive line will suddenly look a lot different to fans in London this weekend.
Meanwhile, the Ravens pulled off another huge acquisition that fills a massive need on their offensive line.
Will both fanbases be happy with Wednesday's big trade? Or did one team obviously come out on top in this one?
Ravens fill biggest need on offensive line with massive in-season trade
The Ravens deserve praise for aggressively upgrading a huge position of need in the middle of the season.
Baltimore lost Jovaughn Gwyn and Ethan Pocic to injuries early in the season. Both players are now on injured reserve, which forced the Ravens to start Vega Ioane at center despite draft him to play guard.
But everything looks different with Jurgens added to the equation. Jurgens will take over starting duties at center once he gets settled in Baltimore. That will move Ioane back to right guard and give the Ravens good starters at every position on the offensive line.
Baltimore got an excellent deal on Jurgens when looking at total compensation and his contract. The main piece of this trade for the Ravens is their 2028 second-round pick. Not having that pick might sting in the future, but they will feel the benefits of the move right away. They will have Jurgens for the foreseeable future, as he is locked up through 2029 with modest cap hits.
GM Eric DeCosta has done it again for the Ravens.

Are the Eagles going full rebuild mode after trading Cam Jurgens?
There are a few layers to this trade from the Eagles' perspective.
Starting with the compensation, Philly got a pretty good deal in this trade too. Acquiring a future second-round pick and clearing some salary cap space is a solid return for almost any NFL player. On paper, it is hard to argue that this was a great deal by both sides.

Philly suddenly has an unproven offensive line after a cavalcade of unfortunate circumstances. As noted above, Lane Johnson is no longer on the team. On top of that, Landon Dickerson was already on injured reserve with a bone bruise. Adding the Jurgens trade on top of that creates yet another hole on the o-line.
The Eagles were already looking weak after their Week 4 collapse against the Rams. Now Philly looks like they are flirting with a rebuild, especially now that they boast extra first- and second-round picks in the 2028 NFL Draft.
It will be fascinating to see if the Eagles make additional trades leading up to the deadline next month.
