With the California football program led by first-time head coach Tosh Lupoi, the results this season have been underwhelming, to say the least, with the team at a 3-6 record ahead of Saturday against the Virginia Cavaliers. As the brutally honest truth is that Lupoi's time with the California football team has been disappointing so far, general manager Ron Rivera would keep it real about this season.
Speaking to KNBR’s “Murph & Markus” morning show, which he does a weekly appearance on, he realizes that the expectations were “very high” coming into the season. Rivera wouldn't hold back on Lupoi's time to start, saying that he has “bumped his head a lot,” looking for the head coach to improve with the team in the remaining games of the season.
“We have talked a lot, tried to give him a lot of advice, point him in the right direction. Some of it, he’s been very receptive, and other portions of it, he hasn’t. And it’s those things that sometimes you’ve gotta learn for yourself before you think, ‘Oh wow, this is it.’ But I’d like to continue to stress that this is a guy that’s learning, growing,” Rivera said, via SF Gate.

We have to show that we are growing; there has been some growth and development of our players, our team, and the culture is getting stronger. Those are all things that you have to have going forward.”
At any rate, the Golden Bears are 3-6, 2-4 in conference play, as they look to get back in the winning column on Saturday against the Cavaliers.
