Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Bake Mayfield suffered a dislocated thumb injury on his right hand in the closing minutes of the club's 23-16 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. While the situation was concerning on Sunday, it appears Mayfield avoided a serious injury, as his update offers a silver lining on the situation.
Reports indicate an MRI revealed that the 31-year-old signal-caller did not sustain any further damage to his thumb, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. While Mayfield will miss some time due to the injury, the Buccaneers did not lose him for the entire season.
“Bucs QB Baker Mayfield's MRI showed no additional damage on his dislocated right thumb, per sources,” Fowler reported. “So, still likely to miss time but some [relatively] good news based on testing. Mayfield will get a second opinion.”
Head coach Todd Bowles claimed that the nine-year veteran will be out for at least the next three weeks, per Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team. It's said that Jalon Daniels, an undrafted free agent, will step in as the starting quarterback in Tampa Bay for the time being.
