The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are currently gearing up for their upcoming game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, looking to build off their recent win against the Dallas Cowboys on the road. The Buccaneers have been without starting quarterback Baker Mayfield for multiple weeks due to an injury, prompting backup undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels to get the start.
On Thursday, the team got official word on Mayfield's status for the Steelers tilt.
“Baker Mayfield is NOT practicing today so we can stop speculating. Jalon Daniels will start vs the Steelers barring something unforeseen,” reported Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times on X, formerly Twitter.
Daniels looked much better in his start against the Cowboys than he did the previous week against the Green Bay Packers, although how much of that was due to Dallas' defensive ineptitude is certainly a fair question to ask.
Meanwhile, Mayfield has been out of action since the end of the Cowboys' loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 3, and it remains to be seen how far away he is from returning.
Article Continues BelowMayfield had gotten off to a rough start to the new year, plagued primarily by turnovers, after signing a new massive contract with the team just days before the season, so Tampa Bay would certainly like to see him get back on the field and redeem himself for those mistakes sooner rather than later.
In any case, the Buccaneers and Steelers are slated to hit the field on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 pm ET from Tampa Bay.
