Brock Purdy led the San Francisco 49ers to a 32-29 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 5 to help his team to a 5-0 record. Purdy completed 19 of 29 passes for 189 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, recorded a 92.5 passer rating and added six rushing yards on five attempts.
As a result, he has now moved ahead of Josh Allen in the NFL MVP race, per BetOnline odds. His latest performance means that Purdy has now moved to +280, making him the MVP favorite for the first time this season and ending Allen's run at the top, per a post on X by ClutchPoints.
The latest odds put Allen at +350, Patrick Mahomes at +575, Joe Burrow at +850, Trevor Lawrence at +900 and Lamar Jackson at +1200. Purdy's performance against Seattle was not his most productive of the season, and he was sacked three times, which was the first time that had happened this season. Purdy’s sole interception came in the third quarter and was followed by a Seattle touchdown that gave the Seahawks the lead.
However, Purdy responded by connecting with veteran Mike Evans during a 12-play, 74-yard touchdown drive that put San Francisco back in front, 29-26. The 49ers then produced an eight-play, 43-yard drive that set up Eddy Piñeiro's game-winning 44-yard field goal.
Article Continues BelowPurdy’s passing numbers were below the standards he has set since the start of the campaign. However, he has remained consistent despite the 49ers suffering multiple injuries thus far.
Of course, Allen remains a leading contender, and the odds may as well change after the Buffalo Bills play their Monday night matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. The 49ers will now take on the Washington Commanders on Monday and will look to continue their unbeaten start to the season.
