Brian Schottenheimer: I don't worry about George Pickens's drops, he'll be just fine

Among the reasons why the Cowboys lost 28-20 to the Giants in Week 1 were a pair of dropped passes by wide receiver George Pickens.

Both drops came in the first half and the second came just before halftime on a pass that would have helped put the Cowboys in position to break a 7-7 tie. Dak Prescott threw an interception a few plays later and the Giants turned that into a 14-7 lead at the break.

On Wednesday, head coach Brian Schottenheimer was asked whether he talked to Pickens about the plays. Schottenheimer said he didn’t feel the need to because it was uncharacteristic of the wideout’s usual efforts.

“I don’t say anything to George. George will be just fine,” Schottenheimer said. “He’s gonna usually catch that ball going down the sideline and probably pull through it, then jump over people and spin and then jump into the end zone. So, I don’t worry about George.”

Pickens said he understands the need to button things up ahead of this week’s game against the Commanders.

“It’s definitely urgent, because it’s [another] division game, such as the Giants was,” Pickens said, via the team’s website. “We definitely need to nail down our Ps and Qs. I think that’s the mindset that people are honing in now.”

Pickens can’t help with a defense that underwhelmed against the Giants, but holding onto the ball could lead to more points that makes the job easier for players on that side of the ball.
