By the end of the top of the fifth inning in Game 3 of the 2026 World Series, it seemed like everyone who was watching the game, whether in the stands at Tropicana Field or at home being glued to their television, knew that the game was over. After all, the Milwaukee Brewers had just exploded for eight runs, which they all scored with two outs in the inning, to extend their lead over the Tampa Bay Rays to 10-0.
While the Rays technically still had five more innings to work with, the Brewers' pitching corps wasn't just about to let them back into the game with that big of a cushion. The Brewers still had Robert Gasser on the mound by that point, and all Gasser could do was smile as his team's offense gave him more than enough breathing room moving forward.
“I had a smile on my face the whole time,” Gasser recalled after the game in his postgame interview on FOX, as per ClutchPoints lead MLB reporter Joey Mistretta.
The Brewers would go on to win the game 10-1 to take a 3-0 series lead, leaving them just one win away from winning their first World Series title in franchise history. Gasser was incredible during his time on the mound. In six innings of work, he faced just the minimum number of hitters, all while allowing just one hit (which was erased via caught stealing) and one walk (which was erased on a double play) while shutting out the Rays completely.
Gasser is coming off a game in which he pitched five shutout innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 3 of the NLCS, so this is nothing new for the 27-year-old lefty.
Now, the Brewers need to win just one more game to earn their first World Series title in franchise history, and their first opportunity to close out the Rays will come tomorrow night for Game 4 at 8:00 PM E.T.
