As the Big 12 conference has had Brett Yormark as its commissioner since 2022, he has been a part of major events happening like the conference realignment that had big programs join in 2023 and 2024. Fast forward to the present, and the Big 12 conference will go through more major change, this time in the search for a new commissioner as Yormark is leaving the role.
According to Brett McMurphy of On3 Sports, Yormark's statement would consist of being excited to ‘pass the baton' to the future commissioner. Even after he's done being the Big 12 conference commissioner, he expresses that he will be “continuing to cheer” for success as he has been a “lifelong fan of the Big 12.”
“I am looking forward to passing the baton to the next commissioner & continuing to cheer this league on as a lifelong fan of the Big 12,” Yormark said in his statement.
Brett Yormark's impact on the Big 12 conference
According to ESPN, Yormark will stay in the role through January 2027 in order to ensure a smooth transition as he “prepares to take another job outside of college sports,” which is not known at this moment.
In 2023, Yormark was the commissioner of the Big 12 when BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF joined the conference, as the job wasn't done, with 2024 having Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, and Utah join when the Pac-12 was going through a breakup. Yormark continued in his statement by saying that whoever the next commissioner of the Big 12 is, they “will inherit a conference that is 16 strong.”

There has never been a better time to be a member of the Big 12 than right now.”
At any rate, it remains to be seen who will replace Yormark and what his next venture will be, as it won't involve college sports.
