With the Toronto Blue Jays looking to lock up a wild-card spot for the 2026 MLB Playoffs, the team could be getting a huge injury return soon in the form of pitcher Trey Yesavage. As Yesavage continues his injury recovery with the Blue Jays after surgery in August to repair a torn meniscus, the team's thinking about when he could come back has been revealed.

According to Keegan Matheson of MLB.com, Yesavage was seen throwing a bullpen session on Sunday morning, with Toronto hoping the pitcher can get a rehab game this upcoming week. Plus, Matheson noted how Yesavage has a “real shot at returning” in the final week of the ball club's season.

“Trey Yesavage is throwing a bullpen this morning with the [Blue Jays] pitching coaches watching on,” Matheson wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “They want to get Yesavage into a rehab game this coming week, and he has a real shot at returning to help in the final week.”

So far this season with the Blue Jays, Yesavage has recorded a 3.65 ERA to go along with 91 strikeouts and a 5-5 record in 18 starts. He had already missed time at the start of the season with a shoulder impingement, as the last game Yesavage played for Toronto was on Aug. 4 against the Houston Astros.

Blue Jays' John Schneider on Trey Yesavage's progress 

Last Thursday saw the young Blue Jays pitcher throw 30 pitches in a simulated two innings against hitters in Dunedin, Florida, as Toronto manager John Schneider spoke about the progress of bringing him up on the pitch count.

“After 30, we’ll probably want to get him to 40 or 50 pitches,” Schneider said, via MLB.com. “Then, we’ll see how that looks and how he feels. We’ll see if he needs another one or not.”

It remains to be seen if Yesavage will make his return in the final week of the season as the Blue Jays currently have a 74-75 record, putting them fourth in the AL East, ahead of the series finale against the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday. Before Sunday's outing, Toronto is one game back of an AL Wild Card spot.
