Columbus Blue Jackets veteran goaltender Cam Talbot made NHL history Friday, becoming the first goalie to earn a win with nine different franchises following a 3-2 shootout victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The 39-year-old stopped 20 shots through regulation and overtime before turning aside all three Pittsburgh attempts in the shootout. His clutch save came against Ben Kindel, whose shot Talbot denied with his glove while sliding to his right. With the win, he surpassed the previous record shared by Curtis McElhinney, Sean Burke and Ron Tugnutt.

Kent Johnson scored the shootout's only goal, beating Penguins goaltender Sergei Murashov with a snap shot. Damon Severson contributed a goal and an assist, Mathieu Olivier also scored, and Cole Sillinger recorded two assists for Columbus.

Evgeni Malkin and Bryan Rust scored for Pittsburgh, with Malkin tying the contest 2-2 at 3:19 of the third period. Murashov finished regulation with 43 saves, but the Blue Jackets ultimately clinched the victory.

Columbus controlled much of the contest, finishing with a 45-22 advantage in shots and winning 66.7% of faceoffs. The Blue Jackets also outhit the Penguins 21-9, while Pittsburgh blocked 20 shots. Despite the substantial difference in shots, Talbot remained effective when called upon and completed the shootout without conceding.

The win added another milestone to Talbot's extensive NHL career. He began with the New York Rangers in 2013-14 and has since played for the Edmonton Oilers, Philadelphia Flyers, Calgary Flames, Minnesota Wild, Ottawa Senators, Los Angeles Kings and Detroit Red Wings.

Talbot signed a one-year contract with Columbus shortly before training camp. During his Blue Jackets debut, he wore equipment carried over from his time with Detroit, including his glove, blocker and leg pads, while stickers covered the Red Wings design on his mask.

Columbus will conclude its first back-to-back set on Saturday against the St. Louis Blues, with Jet Greaves expected to start in goal.
