The Portland Trail Blazers' strong start to the 2026-27 season continued on Wednesday with a 132-119 victory over the Phoenix Suns to move to 6-1 on the new campaign. However, they did not come out of that battle unscathed. With a little over two minutes remaining in the third quarter, reserve guard Vit Krejci took a hit as he defended Miles Bridges in transition, and he immediately fell to the ground and writhed in pain.

The Blazers reported that Krejci had suffered an ankle injury, leaving him unable to return for what would be an eventual win against the Suns. But after the game, head coach Micah Nori said that the actual injury that forced an early exit for Krejci was a leg fracture, as per ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel.

This is a rough development for the Czech sharpshooter, who will now have to undergo a lengthy rehab process from a broken leg. It's not quite clear just how severe the fracture is quite yet, but the breaking of bone usually means that a player will be out for months, if not the entire season.

The Blazers now have three guards on the injured list, with Krejci set to join Ja Morant and Shaedon Sharpe on the mend. Morant, at the very least, is expected to be out for just a month with a hamstring injury. However, Sharpe has months to go before he's cleared to resume basketball activities after undergoing knee surgery this offseason, while Krejci will potentially be out for the long-term as well following this development.

Krejci has played in an average of 10.1 minutes off the bench for the Blazers this year, and his role for the team is to provide an additional scoring punch by spacing the floor. However, the 26-year-old hasn't quite found his rhythm yet this season, as he has shot just 20% from beyond the arc in seven games.
