It is undoubtedly scary to imagine just how high Victor Wembanyama’s ceiling is, and it is easy to forget that the French phenom is still only 22 years old. That scary ceiling was on full display in the Spurs’ 112-111 win over the Dallas Mavericks, from which Wemby returned with his career-high of 52 points.

The Spurs main man broke a number of records during his outing, and as a result ended up earning some huge praise from another legendary big man in the form of Shaquille O’Neal, per a post on X by ClutchPoints.

“We’ve never seen a player like him co the things that be can do.”

“We’ve never seen a player like him do the things that he can do,” he said. “I wonder, if he said coming into the game, ‘I need to score 50 tonight.’ I played with a guy who was like that in Kobe Bryant, rest in peace, but, that’s how you respond when you have a bad game.”

Wembanyama did not have the best game against the Utah Jazz, when he finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds and five assists in a 119-97 win, going 5-15 from the field. However, he was at his emphatic best against the Mavericks, and also had 24 rebounds, two assists, two steals and eight blocks in what was a statline for the ages.

“He was focussed, he played to his size, scored a lot of points from two earlier, wasn’t really making it from three but it didn’t matter,” Shaq explained. “He was doing everything else and again, when you are a great player you never wanna have two bad games in a row. When you have a game before that and you come back like that, no slumps.”

Wembanyama’s statline against Dallas has never been achieved in the league before, as he became only the second player in NBA history to finish with 50 points, 20 rebounds and five blocks in a single game. The only other player to achieve that feat is Bob McAdoo, who did it way back in 1974.

The reigning DPOY also became the first player in NBA history to record at least 25 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks in the first half. Of course, Wemby finished the first half with 29 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks in what proved to be one of his best performances in the league till date.

And well, we are counting on him to do even better in the future.
