Luka Doncic appears to have found his ultimate form. That is certainly how it looks like through the first nine games of the Los Angeles Lakers. After facing him twice in preseason, the Sacramento Kings saw firsthand just how much of a world-beater Doncic has become. On Wednesday, Doncic put up another 40-ball — his fifth time this season scoring 40 or more — and led the Lakers to a 116-103 victory over the Kings.
Doncic finished with 40 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists, and he overcame a slow shooting start to finish with 11 made baskets on 23 field-goal attempts. There is no slowing down the Lakers star right now, and Kings guard Zach LaVine gave him all the praise he could muster for yet another excellent performance.
“Luka's one of the most talented players of all time. I don't think people actually give him enough credit for how good he really is. He one of the best scorers of all time,” LaVine said in his postgame presser, via Oh No He Didn't on X. “The shot-making ability is insane. You really can't contest him. He gets calls. But he plays at his own pace, he creates contact. The dude's averaging 40 right now.”

After this most recent game, Doncic is now averaging 38.5 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 8.0 assists per game this season. These are unprecedented scoring numbers, and the Lakers star's ability to put the ball through the hoop is simply out of this world.
Article Continues BelowIt did not help that the Kings' defense remains a work in progress. In fact, the entire Kings team is a work in progress. But regardless of whether or not they threw multiple bodies at Doncic, the Lakers star still would have found a way to impose his will.
LaVine, for his part, has been playing well. He's averaging 23.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game this season on 50/38/83 shooting splits, and there's a chance that he still latches onto a contending team to provide some consistent scoring and floor-spacing.
