The Buffalo Bills have elevated receiver Trent Sherfield Sr. from their practice squad ahead of Monday night’s matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, adding depth while DJ Moore remains questionable with a shoulder injury.
The move gives Buffalo another receiving option without settling Moore’s availability. An elevation should not be interpreted as confirmation that Moore will sit out; the final inactive list will provide the answer before kickoff.
Buffalo’s concerns extend beyond its receiver. Joshua Palmer has already been ruled out with a shoulder injury, leaving the offense short-handed regardless of whether Moore plays. Sherfield’s availability offers another option as the Bills prepare for different personnel scenarios.
Moore returned to limited practice Saturday after missing Thursday and Friday. He aggravated his left shoulder during Buffalo’s Week 4 loss to New England, having originally injured the same shoulder against Detroit in Week 2.
That history makes Monday’s decision important beyond filling a lineup spot. Buffalo must determine whether Moore can contribute, rather than assume that being available means he can handle his usual responsibilities.
Rookie receiver Skyler Bell is also expected to make his NFL debut. Coach Joe Brady confirmed Bell would be active, and the fourth-round pick took Moore’s practice reps earlier in the week. That preparation gives Buffalo another contingency if its target cannot play.
The Bills also signed cornerback Anthony Kendall from the practice squad and released outside linebacker Mike Danna. Separately, they elevated defensive lineman Phidarian Mathis alongside Sherfield, completing a series of adjustments before the primetime contest.

Mathis adds an option up front with defensive tackle Ed Oliver ruled out because of a knee injury. Defensive lineman Landon Jackson and cornerback Dee Alford also carry questionable designations.
For now, Sherfield’s elevation provides insurance, not clarity on Moore. Buffalo will need its receivers ready against the Rams.
