The Cincinnati Bengals earned a big 34-17 Week 9 win over the Atlanta Falcons in their overseas game in Madrid, Spain. Early in the contest, wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase hit a perfect matador celebration after scoring a 47-yard touchdown. During his postgame press conference, Chase opened up and shared some details about how he came up with the idea.
Chase's celebration also included teammate Tee Higgins, who pretended to be a raging bull. Ja'Marr Chase stood calmly, acting as if he were holding a cape, as you'd expect a matador to in a bullfight. The Madrid crowd appeared to love the celebration, as they erupted in cheers as if it were an actual bullfight.
After the game, the 26-year-old wideout revealed that a friend of his gave him the idea to act as a matador if he managed to score in Madrid, according to Kelsey Conway of the Cincinnati Enquirer. Considering bullfighting is so popular in Madrid, Spain, Chase felt it was an appropriate celebration after his touchdown.
“A friend of mine told me what was going on, especially around this time of the month,” Chase said. “It's really big right now. So he was telling me the crowd would go ‘Olé' if I was to do it. So, I think that was the biggest part was trying to get the crowd involved.”
