The Chicago Bears will be without running back Kyle Monangai for Sunday's Week 5 matchup against the Green Bay Packers after the team officially ruled him out Friday with a turf toe injury.

ESPN's Courtney Cronin reported Friday that head coach Ben Johnson confirmed Monangai would miss the divisional matchup after further evaluation revealed his injury was more serious than initially anticipated.

“Kyle Monangai is OUT for the Packers game, per Ben Johnson. His toe injury is a bigger concern than the team initially realized. Monangai saw a specialist and is currently in a boot. He will not practice today,” Cronin wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The update comes one day after ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that Monangai was dealing with turf toe and could face an uncertain recovery timeline.

“Bears RB Kyle Monangai is dealing with a turf toe injury, placing uncertainty around his availability over the next 1-2 weeks, per sources, though he’s hoping to play through it and the team/player are still managing the situation.

“Monangai ranks seventh with 324 rushing yards.”

Bears face Packers without Kyle Monangai and Caleb Williams

Monangai's absence represents another significant setback for Chicago's offense ahead of its first meeting with Green Bay since January's NFC Wild Card round.

The running back has emerged as an important contributor through the opening four games, ranking seventh in the NFL with 324 rushing yards.

Chicago is also dealing with the absence of starting quarterback Caleb Williams, who suffered a Grade 2 hamstring strain during the Bears' 9-3 Week 2 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

With both Williams and Monangai sidelined, the Bears face additional challenges against a Packers team coming off a 17-14 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 4.

Chicago (3-1) will look to secure its fourth victory of the season when it visits Green Bay (2-2) at Lambeau Field on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on FOX.
