The Chicago Bears are still trying to manage without star quarterback Caleb Williams early in the 2026 season, but they have done an admirable job so far. On Sunday, Ben Johnson and company moved to 2-0 since Williams' injury with a 23-12 win over the New York Jets to get to 3-1 overall on the season.
The Bears got most of their work done on the ground on Sunday thanks to the dynamic running back duo of Kyle Monangai and D'Andre Swift. Monangai ran for 146 yards and two touchdowns on 30 carries in this game, but he left the game late with an injury.
The former Rutgers star is dealing with a thumb injury and that is why he was taken out of the game in the fourth quarter, per Courtney Cronin of ESPN.
Monangai's effort was a major part of a 232-yard day on the ground for the Bears. Swift added 58 yards on 15 carries as a major contributor.

The Chicago defense, which was a major question mark coming into this game, also played very well against a Jets offense that has been good to this point this season. The Bears held Geno Smith and company to just 12 points and seven first downs, allowing the offense to control the game on the ground with a lead.
The Bears will be hoping to get Williams back for a Week 5 game against the Green Bay Packers next Sunday, but now they have this injury to Monangai to worry about as well. Johnson and company will be hoping that the injury is not serious after further tests and that Monangai will be ready to go for their NFC North clash with Green Bay next week.
