Alabama and athletic director Greg Byrne agreed to a revised two-year contract extension earlier this week that will keep him with the university through June 30, 2033. The University of Alabama's Compensation Committee approved the agreement Monday, with Byrne set to receive an annual base salary of $2.675 million, along with performance-based incentive opportunities.
The new deal bumps Byrne's annual salary above the $2.09 million he was earning under his previous contract through June 2031. The 54-year-old has served as the Crimson Tide's athletic director since 2017 after previously holding the same position at Mississippi State and Arizona.
Byrne has played a pivotal role in several major coaching hires during his time at Alabama. He hired Kalen DeBoer following Nick Saban's retirement in 2023 and later gave the football head coach a two-year contract extension and raise in April after the program reached the College Football Playoff. Byrne also hired men's basketball head coach Nate Oats and baseball head coach Rob Vaughn, along with gymnastics head coach Ashley Johnston.
During the 2025-26 academic year, the Crimson Tide became the only Division I program to reach the College Football Playoff, the women's NCAA Tournament, the men's NCAA Tournament, the Women's College World Series and the Men's College World Series.
