After watching his New York Yankees squad put a beating on their long-time rivals, the Boston Red Sox, everyone had one simple question for Aaron Boone: How?
Discussing that exact question with Meredith Marakovits of Yes Network, Boone gave credit to his players, as they turned in two incredible games against the Red Sox.
“We played great baseball, and you know, if we play like that, we can beat anybody,” Boone declared. “It's two games in what we hope is a long month, but really proud of them. It's a really good team that persevered through a lot over there and runs a lot of good pitchers at you. And I just thought we had great at-bats, obviously, and then anchored by our two great starting pitchers to get us off on a great note each night.”
Asked how the Yankees were able to score 18 runs in two games against Boston, Boone admitted he didn’t know, but appreciated it all the same, as his team has a “real hunger” to succeed.
“I don't know. We've been through a lot as a team,” Boone said. “I've talked about them having grit and a real hunger. They've done a lot of things, even through some tough times, of knowing how to win a game. They kind of put it all together here for a couple days, but we know we're going to take on a great Rays team in a few days.”
Now set to face off once more against the Tampa Bay Rays, who took the AL East in September, the Yankees have to see if they can bring their Bronx power to their Spring Training home, or if this was a classic example of some New York magic.
