Carmelo Anthony believes the Philadelphia 76ers could become a serious threat in the Eastern Conference if their roster develops chemistry early in the season. The former NBA star shared his assessment after Philadelphia defeated the New York Knicks 106-100 on Opening Night, when Tyrese Maxey tied a Julius Erving record.

Anthony suggested that the 76ers already have enough shooting to compete without making significant changes.

“They got capable shooters,” Anthony said in comments shared by NBA Courtside.

He highlighted Kentavious Caldwell-Pope's experience, Anfernee Simons's scoring ability, and Tyrese Maxey's outside shooting as reasons for optimism.

Anthony also expressed confidence that Philadelphia's offense could improve as the season progresses, particularly with Joel Embiid appearing to be in strong physical condition.

However, his most striking observation concerned the team's leadership.

“It's Maxey's team; let's not even think about this,” Anthony said.

That endorsement places considerable expectations on Maxey as Philadelphia attempts to establish its identity around its talented backcourt.

Anthony's assessment also carries a warning for the rest of the conference.

If the 76ers develop chemistry in November while keeping their key players healthy, he believes they could become difficult opponents throughout the season.

Philadelphia's performance also prompted Joel Embiid to deliver a message to Maxey, reinforcing the attention surrounding Philadelphia's emerging leadership.

For now, Anthony sees enough talent and potential for the 76ers to emerge as a dangerous contender in the East.

Still, sustaining that momentum will require consistent execution on both ends of the floor, especially against tougher opponents as Philadelphia looks to turn its promising start into lasting success.
