The Chicago Bulls opened their 2026-27 regular season with a humiliating 135-92 loss to the Kawhi Leonard-led Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night, with Josh Giddey's previously undisclosed wrist injury potentially contributing to one of the worst performances of his NBA career.

Following Chicago's 43-point home loss, Giddey revealed that he suffered a left wrist injury during the preseason and underwent an MRI. The 24-year-old guard indicated that he would have to manage the injury moving forward.

K.C. Johnson of Chicago Sports Network shared Giddey's revelation Wednesday via X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Josh Giddey, asked by @SamSmithHoops about wrap he had on left wrist, said it happened during first preseason game and he had an MRI and it’s something he’s gonna have to play through for awhile.”

Johnson also highlighted an interesting detail regarding Chicago's handling of the injury.

“Giddey hasn’t been listed on injury report”

The revelation raises questions about whether the injury affected Giddey's shooting during Chicago's season opener, although the guard did not directly attribute his struggles to the wrist issue.

Josh Giddey's shooting struggles highlight Bulls' disastrous season opener

Giddey finished Wednesday's loss with just two points, seven rebounds and six assists while committing five turnovers across 24 minutes.

The Australian guard shot an abysmal 1-for-10 from the field, including 0-for-4 from 3-point range and 0-for-2 from the free-throw line.

His performance marked a disastrous beginning to the campaign, particularly as Chicago looks to establish a new identity under head coach Tiago Splitter.

The Bulls struggled to contain Toronto throughout the contest, suffering a lopsided defeat against a Raptors team led by Leonard.

While Giddey's wrist injury could help explain his offensive difficulties, Chicago will need significantly better production from its starting guard moving forward.

The Bulls (0-1) will look to rebound from their embarrassing opener when they travel to face the Milwaukee Bucks (0-1) on Friday at 4 p.m. ET.
