The San Francisco 49ers have enjoyed the perfect start to the 2026 season. San Francisco is 2-0 to start the year, which includes a dominant win over Los Angeles in Australia. One 49ers reporter made a pointed joke at the Rams' expense after recent comments made about that Australia matchup.
49ers insider Matt Barrows made a brutal comparison about the Rams related to future games in Australia. He compared the Rams to a “deadbeat dad” sending their child cash on their birthday.
“Commitment? The Rams are like the deadbeat dad who sends $5 in a birthday card,” Barrow wrote on Tuesday on social media. “Miss you, Champ!”
Barrows was referencing Rams president Kevin Demoff's recent comments about the team's future playing in Australia. Demoff explained that head coach Sean McVay's frustration during the postgame press conference was purely because his team lost the game.
Demoff also declared that LA is still committed to their relationship with Australia. That could result in more games in Australia in the future for LA.
“I think you’re going to hear his frustration, which is frustration about the way we played, not frustration about international games, not frustration about Australia,” Demoff said in an exclusive interview with The Sporting Tribune. “It’s literally frustration about Week 1.”
This clearly smells like damage control after McVay joked about “not playing in Australia ever again” on September 17th.
Remember, Kyle Shanahan was initially not thrilled about playing in Australia. However, that didn't stop the 49ers from showing up a week early to get prepared.
Either way, 49ers fan have to be happy about how the season has started. San Fran will look to expand their winning streak in Week 3.
