Several members of the San Francisco 49ers team have been asked about wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk potentially rejoining the team after his contract was voided last year. Naturally, 49ers general manager John Lynch has also been asked about this situation during a radio spot on KNBR.

As transcribed by ESPN's Nick Wagoner, Lynch pointed out how unusual the Aiyuk situation is and that they are still trying to work things out.

“This is kind of a unique situation, not one you have, so there's really no playbook. But I always go back to what's my charge, what's my job? My job is to look out for the best interest of the 49ers. And as such, in this particular situation, we're working with the NFL Management Council to navigate through a different situation. And so it's fluid,” Lynch said.

When asked about a potential reunion with Aiyuk, Lynch didn't rule it out.

“Yeah, of course. I think everything's possible.”

A first-round pick by the 49ers in 2020, Aiyuk has not featured in the NFL since suffering a torn ACL and MCL in 2024. In July 2025, the 49ers voided his contract for 2026 after failing to do rehab sessions and check-ins with the team. He was put on the reserve/left squad list in December. But last week, Aiyuk hired agent Drew Rosenhaus with a plan to get reinstated to the NFL.

The 49ers could use reinforcements at wide receiver with Mike Evans currently out with an Achilles injury. However, Lynch will be careful not to disrupt the chemistry the 6-1 Niners have built, especially given how poorly Aiyuk's first stint with the team ended.
