Coach Kyle Shanahan's San Francisco 49ers eeked out a 32-29 home win over Seattle that included a bonkers, first Brandin Cooks touchdown since he signed with the team. Linebacker Dre Greenlaw was ejected for a late hit while Deebo Samuel left the game for a different reason entirely.

The longtime 49ers star fumbled the ball, went down, and suffered a hamstring injury that kept him out of the remainder of the game.

Samuel had two carries and two receptions for a combined 25 yards on a day when the 49ers' offense was held to 269 yards. Shanahan's team still outgained the Seahawks, who finished with 251 yards, and won a turnover-filled game (three from San Francisco and four from Seattle). Christian McCaffrey led the 49ers with 68 yards rushing on a day when star QB Brock Purdy was sacked three times and intercepted once.

The 49ers have plenty of weapons to fill in for Samuel and Purdy to get them the ball, including Mike Evans, who has dealt with stabbing pain in his ribs but recovered to catch seven passes for 113 yards and a touchdown to lead the 49ers.

Shanahan and Samuel's team is now 5-0, in the penthouse of the NFC West Division, with a home game against the Commanders on deck for October 19 at Levi's Stadium. Samuel's long history of difficult injuries is well known, but that doesn't make his most recent one any easier to swallow. The 49ers will trudge forward in hopes of getting healthier soon, with designs on another Super Bowl trip amid a white-hot start to the season.
