Arsenal fans handed severe warning ahead of potential title-clinching match

Arsenal supporters will be ejected from Selhurst Park if they attempt to sit in the home end against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

The Gunners face Palace on the final day of the season, with a victory enough for Arsenal to clunch their first Premier League title for 22 years.

Arsenal are on the brink of ending their wait for glory after beating Burnley on Monday night, and will be confirmed as champions should Manchester City fail to beat Bournemouth.

However, Palace have now announced measures are being taken ahead of this weekend’s clash, which kicks off at 4pm.

The club will carry out identity checks alongside advanced security to prevent Arsenal fans from sitting in home areas at Selhurst Park.

It comes after Palace prevented supporters from sharing tickets for the match, which is sold out.

Fans will be banned from buying tickets in the future if they are found to have shared their tickets without prior authorisation from the club.

Meanwhile, anyone found to have gained unauthorised access, who is not a season ticket holder or member, will be ejected.

Crystal Palace statement

Palace confirmed the measures in a statement on Tuesday, explaining: “Ahead of this Sunday’s Premier League fixture between Crystal Palace and Arsenal supporters are reminded that enhanced security measures and identity checks are in place to prevent away supporters from sitting in home seats.

“Any supporters found to have shared their ticket with away supporters or sold their ticket via unofficial channels will face strict sanctions.

“As a club, we are firm in our stance: for the safety and comfort of all in attendance at Selhurst Park, only home supporters should be seated in home sections.

“As previously announced, ticket sharing has been turned off for this fixture; enhanced searching will be in operation, with all supporters searched on their way in; and identity checks will take place across the stadium.

“Supporters who are found to have shared their ticket without the prior authorisation of the club will be banned from buying match tickets going forward, with no exceptions.

“Anybody who is not a season ticket holder or a member and who has gained unauthorised access to the stadium will be ejected from the ground immediately.

“We encourage all supporters to arrive as early as possible to facilitate smooth access to the stadium, and kindly ask for your patience to allow our staff to carry out these checks, particularly in the period immediately preceding the 16:00 BST kick-off.

“Thank you in advance for your cooperation.”

Premier League title permutations

Arsenal have not won the title since their Invincibles campaign under Arsene Wenger during the 2003/04 season.

Meanwhile, it has been six years since their last major trophy, an FA Cup triumph in 2020.

However, the Gunners could be crowned champions on Tuesday night if Manchester City fail to beat Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

City are five points adrift of the league leaders with a game in hand.

If Pep Guardiola’s side beat the Cherries, though, Arsenal know that a win against Palace will secure top spot.

As for City, they would still need to see off Aston Villa on Sunday and hope their title rivals drop points.

A draw for Arsenal would allow City to win the title on goal difference if they beat both Bournemouth and Villa in their remaining matches.
