Anthony Davis has money-first answer to Wizards future questions

The Washington Wizards were in full rebuild this season, but they’ve shown that they’re ready for the next step in their process. They were able to acquire Trae Young and Anthony Davis at the trade deadline, and it’s obvious they’re looking to compete next season.

Davis is one player who many are uncertain about when it comes to his future with the team, and he’s still trying to figure out if the team is trying to compete sooner rather than later.

During exit interviews, Davis was asked if he’s committed to playing with the Wizards next season.

“I’m under contract. I love my money,” Davis said via David Aldridge.

Davis apparently gave his answer with a smile, which may mean there is some type of commitment there for him. The reality of the situation is that the Wizards still have some steps to go before they can truly compete, and it may take longer than just next year for it to happen.

For Davis, he’s been competing in the playoffs for most of his career, and at this point, he’s looking for championships. At this point, it’s hard to tell if he and the Wizards are on the same timeline. There is still a lot of young talent on the team, and with a top lottery pick coming in this summer, they’re only going to get younger.

That means the Wizards will have to make some more moves to bring in proven talent during the offseason, and they have the flexibility and assets to do so. If they’re not able to make things happen, and it’s shaky at the start of next season, there could be a chance that Davis looks elsewhere.

Like Davis said, he’s under contract as of now, and the hope is that the Wizards can make the right strides to improve for the foreseeable future.
