Angels’ manager Kurt Suzuki shares crucial Alek Manoah injury update before Blue Jays game

Alek Manoah’s injury issues are the reason why a promising Toronto Blue Jays career was cut short, and his attempted return with the Los Angeles Angels hit another snag in Spring Training. Manoah hit the injured list with a right middle finger contusion, which caused him to miss a significant amount of time given how it affected his ability to pitch, but Kurt Suzuki is optimistic that he could return soon, according to Kurt Suzuki, via Rhett Bollinger on X, formerly Twitter.

“Alek Manoah faced hitters and threw four simulated innings, so he’s nearing a rehab assignment,” manager Kurt Suzuki said.

Manoah’s career has been a tragic one, slowed by injuries. He burst onto the scene with the Blue Jays in 2021 and followed that up with an All-Star season in 2023 that had him finishing third in Cy Young voting. Manoah looked like a pitcher that could dominate the American League for a long time as one of those horses that the Blue Jays could roll out in the postseason, but he could never capture that same magic as in 2022.

Manoah would start just 24 games over the next two seasons, and despite some attempted ramp-ups in 2025 to help Toronto on its quest for the World Series, he was never able to get healthy enough to return. He would spend some time with the Atlanta Braves organization at the end of the season before joining the Angels in the offseason, hoping to return to the majors. Once healthy, Manoah will get that opportunity.
