Adam Silver catches Spurs’ Game 5 with Prince Harry in San Antonio

The NBA Finals are always a hotspot for A-list celebrities, but Game 5 between the San Antonio Spurs and the New York Knicks brought some serious royal flavor to Texas. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver watched Saturday night’s high-stakes matchup alongside a surprise guest at Frost Bank Center: Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex.

The royal cameo added extra buzz to an already electric atmosphere in San Antonio. Prince Harry, who did not wear gear for either team, sat in the eighth row next to Silver. He attended the game alongside U.S. Army veteran and Purple Heart recipient JP Lane, a prominent Warrior Games athlete.

While the star-studded crowd, which also featured Spike Lee, Timothée Chalamet, and Tracy Morgan, enjoyed the spectacle, the action on the court was pure chaos. The Knicks entered the night just one win away from snapping their 53-year championship drought after pulling off a historic 29-point comeback victory in Game 4. However, the home team refused to go down without a fight.

San Antonio suffocated New York early, holding the Knicks to a dreadful 18% shooting performance and a season-low 13 points in the opening quarter. Spurs rookie Dylan Harper provided a massive spark off the bench, en route to an efficient 21-point performance on the night.

The tension peaked in the second quarter when New York guard Jalen Brunson drained a shot and collapsed after Victor Wembanyama closed out into his landing space. No foul was called, prompting an absolute meltdown from Brunson toward the officials. Wembanyama escaped a flagrant call that could have suspended him for a potential Game 6. The Spurs capitalized, riding a big first half to lead 72-65 by the end of the third quarter.

With a potential trophy on the line and royalty in the building, Game 5 delivered all the drama NBA fans could handle.
