Youngest ever darts winner who pipped Luke Littler’s record seals match with two 145 checkouts on debut
Teenage darts starlet Mitchell Lawrie created history on his debut at the WDF World Championship in Lakeside.
The 15-year-old, who claimed his first senior title at just 14, has become the youngest player to ever win a match at the iconic venue.

This surpasses Luke Littler’s personal record he set at Lakeside in 2022 where he blitzed through to the last-32 aged 15.
Lawrie, who only turned 15 last month, has been steadily building his reputation, claiming the British and Welsh Open as well as The Irish Classic earlier this year as he looks to emulate Littler‘s achievements.
And his first-round performance was top drawer.
He faced off against Japan’s Tomoya Maruyama and eased to a 3-0 victory on Sunday.
Lawrie averaged 90 and even hit a ten-dart leg.
His finishing was also excellent as well with two brilliant 145 checkouts – the first coming in the opening leg of the third set and the second sealing to seal the famous win.
He will now face second seed Jason Brandon in the next round on Tuesday.
Littler’s a fan
Of course, we all know the original teenage darts sensation is Littler, and his rise in the last two years has been nothing short of sensational.
The 18-year-old has won nine PDC majors, with six coming in 2025.
He is also the world number one, and he has a close eye on Lawrie’s progress.
Win The Ultimate talkSPORT Darts Experience
Up for grabs here are tickets to the PDC World Darts Championship.
Not only that, there is the chance to win exclusive access to the talkSPORT Darts Trophy on Wednesday 10 December, which sees presenters take on one another.
But the big prize is there are two tickets to the opening day of the PDC World Darts Championship on Thursday 11 December, plus two nights’ accommodation in London AND £2,500 cash!
Speaking about the Scotsman’s rise, he said: “He’s a very, very good player at such a young age like myself. Obviously, I think about my record for winning a WDF Open.
“So that’s another one he has taken off me, but he’s a very good player.
“It is crazy. He’s got to wait years for the Development Tour. But for now, he’s just got to keep at it because he’s got to wait.
“But there’s plenty of opportunities out there for now for tournaments to go and win.”
And Littler believes that Lawrie will be on the Development Tour very soon as he takes further steps towards being a professional.
He remarked: “You have just got to keep your head down. You still have got to keep going.

“Because I think at 14, 15, I was like ‘oh it’s another year till I can go on the Development Tour’.
“He’s definitely thinking the same the way he’s been playing. So just keep his head down and yeah you’ll be on Tour.”
There is a still long way to go, but if he does manage to win the competition at the Lakeside, he would become the youngest winner of a world championship in history.
So, either way, Lawrie is certainly a player to watch out for.
