That total also placed Purdy among some of the game’s best quarterbacks. Tom Brady threw 34 interceptions over his first 40 starts, while Joe Montana recorded 37, and Kurt Warner 47. Peyton Manning (51), Drew Brees (37), Steve Young (35), Matthew Stafford (47), and Brett Favre (48) all posted higher totals.

However, others offer a contrasting picture: Patrick Mahomes threw just 19 interceptions, Justin Herbert 30, Josh Allen 31, and Joe Burrow 29.

Through four games this season, Purdy has completed 68.7 percent of his pass attempts for 979 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions. These numbers fall short for a quarterback who recently signed a five-year, $265 million contract, making him among the NFL’s highest-paid players.

The organization expected production consistent with in 2023, when he posted a 113 passer rating and finished fourth in MVP voting.
